Notes from the Road -- Travel notes, mostly from the western United States, written in an artistic (yet useful) way. Great photos and narrative give you the real feeling of the areas.

Roadside America -- Get all kinds of fascinating information about America's back roads and the sites you can see. This site (and its associated books) focuses on the odd sitings, like Muffler Men, mind-reading racoons, world's oldest traffic signal, etc. Check it out before your next vacation!

Route 66 -- I'm still trying to figure this one out -- it's all about the old U.S. highway Route 66, but the web site is by a Belgian! You can find detailed maps and directions, history, stories, and of course links to any other web sites about Route 66 (there are plenty). Also movie references, photos, and merchandise. And if you're in Belgium, you'll find information on taking a trip to tour Route 66.

Scenes of Vermont -- This is a pretty nice site for general Vermont information, with some nice scenery. Includes skiing/snowmobiling info and conditions, travel info, and general E-zine articles.

Foreign Languages for Travelers -- Whether you're getting ready to travel abroad, or just want to start learning another language, this site can be your free online tutor! Select the language you speak now and the language you want to learn, and the lesson begins. Phrases are grouped by category, so you can learn the parts you want. Some parts even have spoken words. In addition, you have access to searchable translation dictionaries, travel information, and a message board.

The National Park Service -- Planning a trip or live near a national park? Here you can check out camping conditions, park rules, local phone numbers, and more. Check the Nature Net for info about plants, animals, geology, water, and air. Also learn a little history, look for park jobs, find out about future planning, and more.

Amtrak -- If you travel by train regularly, or would like to know what it's like, check out this site. Plan your route graphically, check out the train's features, an even check out the scenic highlights during a "virtual journey".

MapQuest -- Need to find the best route between 2 cities, or just want a detailed map of a town? Check it out!

Travelocity -- Looks like a great place to check out for travel info, including last-minute deals, discount newsletter, reservations, etc. Has Shockwave clips.

The Travel Channel -- Online companion to the cable TV channel, this is a great place to go for travel information.
